Bumi tagged along with Korra and Tenzin as they searched for Jinora in the Spirit World. He suggested tracking spirits by their spiritual activity, but was interrupted when his brother informed him that such a tactic would be useless.
Later, when a group of bison rustlers attacked the group, Bumi encouraged them to fight as a team like they had on their obstacle course. Despite his frail appearance, Bumi is a brilliant strategist who always thinks ahead.
What is Bumi?
Bumi is a member of the Air Nation and, as the youngest son of Avatar Aang, he has always tried to please him. Although his nonbending status caused a strain in their relationship, he joined the United Forces to protect the world and make Aang proud.
Bumi’s insecurities may be what inspired him to nickname himself “Bum-Ju.” He often tries to compensate for his nonbending status by relying on laughter and attention from others to build up his self-esteem.
While in the Spirit World, Bumi Bumi138 suggested they could find Jinora by following her footprints, but Kya explained that spirits only leave spiritual energy behind, not physical prints. He also claimed that he is a master of Earthbending, as he was able to bend his metal cage down the Mail System shoot when Aang and Azula were chasing him.
How did Bumi become a bender?
Bumi was not born a bender, unlike his siblings Kya and Tenzin. Nevertheless, his dedication to learning allowed him to achieve airbending proficiency. His success paved the way for other nonbenders to gain the ability and helped to restore the once-extinct art.
Bumi and his siblings often tease one another, but they are also very close friends. They enjoy spending time with each other outside of bending and even go on adventures together.
When Zaheer and the Red Lotus arrived at the temple, Bumi was tasked with rounding up the Airbenders for an evacuation. He was able to hold his own against the invaders and protect his family. Afterward, Bumi and his siblings celebrated his victory.
What makes Bumi a master of earthbending?
Bumi is one of the best earthbenders in the Avatarverse and was able to effortlessly take back Omashu from the Fire Nation during Harmonic Convergence. He is very cautious and often waits for the right moment to strike, but when he does it can be devastating. He is able to levitate boulders, create fissures in the ground with his kicks, and quickly tunnel through dirt.
While Bumi is a very good earthbender, his skill level doesn't quite match that of Toph Beifong and the other members of Team Avatar. This is because metalbending, while possible in theory, is difficult to execute due to the fact that it changes its composition after it is purified.
Despite this, Bumi is still a capable commander and was a very valuable ally during the rescue operation of the airbenders held in the temple.
What was Bumi’s profession before he retired?
Bumi’s father was from an air nomad family, so it is not surprising that he was also an airbender. He has powerful airbending abilities and is an excellent leader. He is even able to calmly guide the airbenders when they are under attack by Kuvira.
Although Bumi’s non-bending status initially created a distance between him and Aang, she was determined to make her father proud. She eventually joined the United Forces and became a fleet commander.
Bumi has a funny personality and she often teases her younger brother, Tenzin. She has a very strong sense of humor and she is always willing to help others. She is a very wise person and she has a lot of knowledge about bending. She is also a great healer.
